Fall is a great time to go to www.directstartv.com and get lots of football channels but who wants to just watch games when you can PLAY them? We’ve put together a short list of our favorite football video games of all time – check out the ones you need to try:
The Madden Series: Madden sure knows how to make football video games, right? The characters are incredibly lifelike and the game itself is one you can play again and again. It gets better every year so invest in Madden 12.
NCAA Football: If you’re more of a college fan you’ll love NCAA – the players are faster and the uniforms more familiar and you finally get to ditch all that gloating in the endzone, as if that’s not your favorite part of the NFL.
NBA Jam: Okay, so it’s not football but with the lockout still looming large we figured we needed to give you an option to get your basketball cravings covered. NBA Jam is the classic and it’s available even when your favorite team’s not even playing.

The top ten worst games that have ever existed in the gaming industry is a list of games that should have never hit the shelves and market. Number one game that ranks the worse of all time is E.T: The Extra Terrestrial, this game is clear why it ranks the worst game in history. Moving pixels and basically nothing to do in a vast land of nothingness is basically the main features of this game. The next game is Super Columbine Massacre RPG, the name says it all. Third up on the line up is Custer’s Revenge, a porn based game, a big no-no. Up next is a game called Daikatana, a poorly made game that seems unfinished and boring. Although some may disagree, Pac-Man ranks up to the list at number 5. Next up is a game called Smurf Rescue, the name says it all, why would you want to play a game that rescues these weird blue thing? At number 7 we have Shaq Fu, stick to basketball Shaq. At number 8 we have Make My Video, a poor man’s version of Dance Central. Last but not least, Price of Persia and Elf Bowling at 9 and ten.

Got a free weekend and want to catch up some of your games? Follow these tips on how to power through the night without crashing before the sun rises.

1) Pick the right game. Sounds easy, right? But, killing the same twelve cave rats for eight hours straight will make the night seem longer, and it will be easier for sleep to take hold. Stick with games that have a wide variety of gameplay or an engaging story to keep your mind busy.

2) Boost up. Energy drinks and soda can be a great way to give you that extra little kick you need to keep going. Pacing your caffeine intake over several hours rather than all at once works better to keep you in the game longer.

3) Eat right. Around midnight, you’re going to get the munchies, but don’t reach for that pizza or candy bar. Pizza, and other greasy foods, can be heavy in your stomach and give you that sleepy feeling. Sugar can work as a temporary high, but after a couple of hours a crash will set in and can cut your night short. Stick with lighter snacks like chips and salsa, fruit, or popcorn.

In many quarters the King of classic video games has to be Pac Man, it set off new standards for the video game industry, and generated the type of popularity that took video games to a new and unparalleled level. It’s a must have game for all avid video game collectors and users. Another of these types of games is Donkey Kong. It’s remains amount one of the favorites in most video game collectors collections. Street Fighter 2 Flash Game, is another one of the games of that era, that make most want to wander down memory lane. Who could forget 1987, and the hugely successful, Contra. It started out in the arcades but very quickly spread to arcades across the world. In the Atari line of games there are a few classic titles that should be considered, for collectors. Frogger, is probably one of the more popular lines from, Atari. Missile Command, was released in 1980 and still remains enormously popular. Another 1980 Atari release was, Centipede. People, a lot of whom were woman, try to shoot as many insects and bugs before they kill you. Kaboom, released in 1981, is just what the name implies, bombs coming at you.

When it comes to video and computer games, the prevailing belief is that the more expensive a game is, the better, or at least newer, it is. Fortunately for gamers on a budget, a new game-selling trend based around F2P games, or Free-to-Play games, is flooding the market.
On the computer for instance, there have been many recent MMORPGs (Massive Multi-Player Online Role-Playing Games) released that are entirely free to play. This is in stark contrast with a differing trend in the MMO world where companies charge monthly fees as well as for the initial game purchases. Other game genres like traditional RPGs and Arena Style Strategy and FPS (First Person Shooter) games are also adopting the policy.
The companies are able to offer free games because they turn a profit through in-game stores that can sell anything from superficial, aesthetic items to game-changing power-ups and armor. So far, games that have stuck exclusively to the aesthetics shops have fared much better since most consumers shy away from pay-to-win type games.
This means that in some cases, cheaper really is better. There are tons of balanced, well-maintained professional level games free to download on the computer and console. And if you like the game, it’s easy to give back to the company so that they can continue to deliver quality entertainment. And for your troubles, you might be able to pick out a new costume or get those healing pots without grinding an hour to be able to afford them.

Time will tell if the current wave of motion controlled game systems are the way forward or if it is just the gimmick of this generation. What is certain is that motion controls are not as exact as their joypad brethren. For some games this isn’t that big of an issue. Games that were designed with these controls in mind would obviously work fine. However, there are certain genres where these motion controls come up short across the board.

First person shooters are the most obviously affected. Sony and Nintendo aren’t as bad due to the fact that they at least have a controller in your hand to facilitate targeting. The Kinect does not have the luxury of a controller, as they opted to go fully for body recognition. While the technology is very impressive, it does not have the precise control that many games require to play competently.

We are in moment in time where we are losing our ability to precisely control what is happening in the game. They simplify games to compensate, but the experience suffers since the game play is now easier. Games are designed around the controller, and I think we are at a point where that is to the detriment to the games.

Being a serious gamer requires, above all else, time. If you want to excel at anything, you need to put in the time and effort to improve your abilities. The lure of being a professional gamer is attractive to some people, but you don’t see the work involved in getting to that level. Take Starcraft 2 for example, which is among the most popular games on the market today. The top-level players who play this game for a living play up to 18 hours a day. The same game all the time, every single day. So you’ll want to keep this in mind if you want to contemplate a career move.

If you just want to be a better gamer, it is probably best to define what genre or game you want to improve in. No amount of strategy guides and videos will replace the experience and skill you will gain with time and repetition. The process of becoming a serious gamer will likely label you among your peers as being a gamer. While playing video games is much more of a social norm than it was a decade ago, the stigmas of being a gamer still cling to those that enjoy the hobby to an extreme level. So pick you game, block off some time, and game on!
